I’ve Got Mine!

I saw on the news the other morning, a woman had died the other night. I don’t know much about her, except she was found under a tarp, that she was about 49 years old. Some storms had blown through, it got a little cold up in Hemit, she was found off the road, with only a sweater on, by a girl on her way to school. Imagine yourself in that same situation, Imagine, that last dying breath. I don’t know much about this woman, I do know, no one deserves to finish a life this way. She didn’t even have a coat, it breaks my heart, thinking of how empty, how abandoned she must have felt. So I was a little disappointed, hearing the Senate, got rid of the Public Option, God Forbid, Congress get together, on an idea too long in coming. Instead, I hear age limits on Medicare, will drop to 55, for the uninsured. Hearing this, I realize, no longer do I have a dog in this fight, all of our concerns as baby boomers, have been placated. After all its every man for himself in our society these days, a brilliant move by these Senators, they got a whole lot of dogs out of this fight, on both sides of the aisle, I guess their concern is to piss the least amount of people off, as they wade through this mess. Well I’m good, I got mine, let’s talk about creating jobs, I’m not really clear on their plan, are they gonna ship some back. What I see, in this rush for profit by Corporate America, over these last three decades, you know that trickle down crap, is the importance of the American Worker, has been all but ignored, you see, if we’re not out there with good jobs, earning good wages, there is no fuel, it is the spending power, of well payed workers, that drives this machine. There is a hidden cost to manufacturing products half a world away, then shipping them in. Adding up all the costs, materials, labor, logistics, shipping, the forgotten costs are the tons of pollution dumped on our environment. As a population, I wonder if we should be asked to accept this, wait a minute, we were never asked. I think there was some wisdom in BUY AMERICAN, the concept, HE WHO DIES WITH THE MOST TOYS WINS, won out, you know, I got mine. So let’s review, #1, most american manufacturing jobs have been shipped off shore, #2, products produced out of country, are shipped in to a population no longer working, unable to purchase spewing tons of pollution in transit, making their way here, #3, this woman dies under a tarp, in a storm, up in Hemit, guess she didn’t get hers
