Good Guy, Bad Guy!

So the story goes, and this is no joke, two guys are sitting in a bar, having some drinks, shooting some shit, nearby, a couple of couples caught up the story of the day, are just a bit concerned, over the capture of a man, they perceive, all in all, a good guy, a man of great talent, a man they feel, is getting worked over pretty good, someone they feel, that after thirty years running, should just be left alone, that maybe a little forgiveness for him now is due. Anyhow, one of the men drinking, overhears some of this chatter, injects himself into the conversation, introducing himself, as another one of those good guys. He asks both couples if they have any children, if they have any daughters. One couple tell him they have an 11 year old girl, the other couple tell him about their daughter of 14 years. Both these couples, a bit startled with the direction, this self proclaimed good guy goes, he let’s them know he has a loft in Downtown LA. By this time, his drinking buddy is about to gag on his drink, you see, he has got a pretty good sense about what is coming next. If first impressions count, the look of this guy talking, may not make for the best one, he tells the couples he is planing a little party for the weekend, he asks how they feel about maybe dropping off their daughters Saturday Afternoon, that he’d be sure to get them back home mid morning Sunday. As you might expect, this went over real well, a lot of shock value going on here, once again he makes it clear, in no uncertain terms to them, that he IS a good guy. I spent the last three days with this gentleman, and I back this up, despite the direction, this conversation took, he really is, one of the good guys. About now, your probably thinking, I may be a touch confused, on this point, rest assured, I’m not. So here is what is really going on, after four years of hunting down a man, these couples thought of, as a good man, the US Marshal got his man, bothered by the conversation he overheard, of the two couples, he felt it important to frame the issue for them, to put it in the context, of something relevant to their lives. For four years he had hunted down Polanski, got close to his capture many times, Polanski always got away, from only god knows where or why, over and over, someone had tipped him off. They say timing is everything, Polanski went down on the Day Of Atonement in the Jewish Faith, fitting huh? This has nothing to do with innocent until proven guilty, the trial was over before he ran, guilty as charged, the Judge had given him time to get his life in order, the Judge gave him a break, if you recall, he admitted guilt, in open court.
