A Generals Strategy For Fishing

I have a close friend who tells a story of” Ike”, walking down to a stream, on what is now Camp David, taking time to teach them, a successful strategy for fishing. They hadn’t had much luck, my friend, and his siblings, they were out at the Eisenhower estate with their parents. Their father worked in government, my friend tells lots of stories, of weekend barbecues in Washington, certainly they were different times. The President came down between them, explaining that if they wanted to catch fish, just crumble up some bread, through it in the creek, then wait for the fish to boil up. When they’re acting all crazy, thrashing about for the crumbs, drop your hook in the water, you don’t even need to bait the hook, that those fish will hit, on anything moving through the water. A lesson from the President, a life lesson, from the perspective of a General. Here we go, hang on, over all the chatter going on about our President speaking to children in school, all that kept running through my mind was, how rude! I could accept a few narrow minded, ignorant, bigots to be speaking this garbage, when I saw entire communities taking this ugly stand, it became clear, a whole lot more work needs to be done. How our President could not be deeply offended, is beyond me, the ones driving this crap are my generation, what happened to them, why do they have so much hate? Are these the ones from Woodstock who got the Brown Acid. What I see in this man, is a President engaged, out in front, meeting the challenge head on. Taking time, talking to kids, with all he has on his plate, is generous, a tremendous opportunity for a child, to hear something that might click in his brain, much like the successful fishing strategy of a President, has stuck with my friend through the decades!
